Construction blasting is a necessity for various development related works. As you can understand, this work requires a detailed assessment of the site where the operations are going to take place. Most importantly, the difference between the blasting site and the blasting area has to be borne in mind. As the name suggests, the blasting site would be the place where the blasting operations will take place. The blasting area, on the other hand, is the total area that is going to be affected by such operations. HEAVY COVERAGE MATS are made from the rubber tires of truck.

These are primarily the most important considerations before proceeding with any blasting work.

  • The next important aspect is to follow the clearing and guarding procedures in the best possible ways. Any blasting operations will have a specialist blaster-in-charge and he should supervise the following precisely:

  • The person should be able to suggest the best area where the blasting operations are going to be initiated. Accordingly, the place needs to be cleared up and guards should be deployed.

  • During the ground clearing and guarding operation, the personnel engaged in such responsibilities should constantly communicate with the blaster-in-charge.

  • When the blast operation is in full swing, proper safety measures should be taken.

  • After the successful completion of the blasts, the blaster-in-charge should double check for dangerous rock conditions, whether there is any presence of explosives or initiators. The presence of any such factors that can call for unwanted hazards should also be verified.

Now, despite the best planning, sometimes blasting misfires can occur. Accordingly, the blaster-in-charge should be ready with a plan to be implemented in such case scenarios. The general rules are:

  • When a misfire happens, no one should be allowed near the blasting area for at least half an hour.

  • After the stipulated time, those who have enough experience should only be allowed to enter the zone and carry on operations for re-fire, washing out and recovering the explosives that have not been shot.

  • If the situation demands, the blasting area perimeter should be increased as the risks of fly rocks are high in these situations.

The use of non-explosives is now becoming popular because of the above-mentioned points. The blaster-in-charge can easily concentrate on other aspects related to the blasting operations. However, the use of blasting materials can only be chosen once a proper site inspection has been made. Hopefully, more powerful non-explosives would evolve soon making the blasting work less stressful.
